imagesXRZIPCQ8I dropped the ball on this one…

In a recent discussion with Robin about Windows Azure SQL Database, I was completely caught off guard because the pricing for this service was not what I was preaching. In my mind, we were billed for the max allocated space for our SQL Database instances. But as it turns out, I overlooked announcements that was related to pricing for this service.

SQL Database Web and Business editions are charged based on the actual volume of the database, measured in GB.

Database Size Price Per Database Per Month
0 to 100 MB Flat $4.995
Greater than 100 MB to 1 GB Flat $9.99
Greater than 1 GB to 10 GB $9.99 for first GB, $3.996 for each additional GB
Greater than 10 GB to 50 GB $45.96 for first 10 GB, $1.996 for each additional GB
Great than 50 GB to 150 GB $125.88 for first 50 GB, $0.999 for each additional GB

*These prices were taken from the official Windows Azure Website on March 21st, 2014.

In other words, a 7GB SQL Database instance costs $9.99 + $3.996 * 6 =  $33.966 not $45.96.

When it comes to pricing, we should always check the official Windows Azure Website for the latest information.
